0

Malaysian’s love for artisan coffee shops is not slowing down anytime soon. In fact, coffee in Malaysia is now a budding home to a million coffee addicts who rush for it the first thing in the morning. Hardly can blame them. They certainly earned their right to a caffeine fix. And today, we are going to narrow down the best coffee shops Malaysia has to offer their coffee community.

PULP

PULP is a literal playground for coffee lovers in KL. If you are a coffee enthusiast, who would love nothing more than a unique backstory that moves you move into mystical history, then this is the right place for you. PULP is a homage not only to specialty coffee but to the old paper-cutting space of Art Printing works where it is now located at. You can sense the essence of what the place used to be. Their name itself is a reference to the historical roots behind the location. PULP refers to the pulp that is in both the coffee-making process as well as the pulp in the paper-making process.

And let me tell you, the vibe here is for the curious coffee hearts. You cannot simply go to this heavenly playground for a quick dine and dash. No, this place is meant to be explored, learned about, and certainly recommended to your friends. It certainly helps that PULP attracts all sorts of artistic souls, perhaps because of its nostalgic vibe or maybe because it connects like-minded souls in the heart of KL.

RAGE

Normal, ordinary, conventional are certainly not the words I would use to describe this raging heaven.  This coffee shop in Malaysia has another truly heartfelt story. The CEO and Co-founder of RAGE, Jevin Singh fought against the societal norm of the stereotypical ladder of success to pave his own way for self-employment.  After many hurdles of financial restriction, he gave us RAGE, a unique tech start-up for caffeine ragers.

RAGE is unique in a lot of aspects. While I can’t vouch for your discerning taste, I can guarantee you that there is something for every coffee lover in here. Are you lactose intolerant? Don’t worry. They have dairy alternatives from coconut milk to soy milk.  Obsessed with strong coffee? Try their absolute nutty and buttery shots of aromatic espresso. Or maybe you are not so much into strong coffee as much as you are into ice blended drinks or even tea? Drown in some dirty Thai milk tea and drool-worthy milkshakes. If you are also looking for a little bit of matcha in your life, don’t worry they have one of the most affordable yet delicious series of match blends and lattes.

And the best part about this little heaven for coffee go-getters? They are actually one of the more affordable coffee shops near me. Plus, they deliver and have their own mobile application for added convenience.

Ah Gong House

If you have an infatuation with finding hidden coffee gems and bakeries, look no further than this hidden coffee shop in Cheras. (I mean hidden, literally). This local coffee shop in KL is located in a narrow lane that can be easily missed. This cafe is not only unique for its exceptional focus on hand brew coffee, but it has a very unique story behind its birth.

This coffee shop that only opens from Friday till Saturday is home to informal musical school during the weekdays and specialty coffee house on weekends. Pioneered by the creativity of a former kindergartner turned barista, gives us a chance to experience coffee on a more personal and wholesome note.

Locals have nothing but good to say about this hidden coffee place. Their selection of food is limited since their primary focus is coffee. So you can count on their love and hard work into every coffee cup you devour. The concept of the cafe makes you feel right at home with your friends and the coziness allows space for interactions between the barista and customers. After long weekdays of hectic work, it is would be amazing to unwind at this tiny little place that combines all the three things that bud peace within us: Coffee, Music, and Art. Not to mention the old-school nostalgia vibe along with the sleepy cats waiting for us!

VCR

If you are a coffee enthusiast you probably have heard of VCR. but ofcourse, this list won’t be complete without VCR on the list.  This coffee exploratorium doesn’t only serve us espresso shots. They promise us shots of creativity too. In the old neighborhood of Pudu, VCR made a name for themselves with their vintage-ish yet modern architecture but always making us feel at home.

The strong whiff of coffee you get as soon as you enter VCR never gets old. This little place is for both introverted and extroverted souls who enjoy watching artisan coffee meet the antique aesthetics. It also helps that they have the cutest cat sleeping by the entrance to greet us.

Opening their doors as early as 8:30 AM till 5 PM, visit VCR for a nice cup of rich buttery coffee straight from the experts. They offer us a variety of coffees from cappuccinos to hand brew coffee options.

Also fun facts for Uncle Roger fans of Malaysia, uncle roger recently uploaded a video of himself working at VCR and we have to say, that was almost as good as a refreshing cup of coffee from VCR!

Coffee Stain

Another hidden coffee shop in the heart of KL, coffee stain takes us on an aromatic journey. You know that a coffee shop has good coffee when their philosophy is about a hundred percent passion and love towards coffee and coffee lovers.

The coffee stain is an establishment of culture, education, and familial love. A family poured their love into coffee by traveling to major cities around the world to perfect their skills in the art of coffee. The lengths they have gone into perfecting their art of coffee for us is absolutely inspirational. It is almost poetic, but somehow very true when we say every coffee they make has a story behind it. A story filled with love, hard work, and passion.

If you have a certain affinity for meaningful coffee experiences on rustic wooden tables and some extra creaminess on drinks with a side of delicious desserts, then this is your place. It is also the perfect place to have a wonderful time with your friends and even by yourself.

Daily Potion

Where London meets the coffee addicts of Malaysia, the daily potion is another inspirational coffee shop serving the richest of coffee in Malaysia. One can say brewing coffee is much like art. It is an expression of one’s self and creativity. Again, creativity and art are subjective but we can certainly vouch for the pride daily potion takes in their coffee craft. They are also the first-hand press espresso shops in Malaysia (Quite the feat to celebrate). They are not only the first but also the best at their own coffee craft. Collaborations are done with authentic coffeepreneurs of Malaysia to bring us the perfect hand-pressed coffee.

We are not the only ones with nothing but good words for this gem in Malaysia. Locals are also bedazzled by their varieties of coffee from Americano, Salted caramel Latte, pandan latte to their own concoction of Kopi and Teh named “Champpuccino”

And here is the kicker! You can have their absolute swoon-worthy coffee delivered right to your doorstep as well. If you fancy being outside, they have a quaint little space waiting for us in Bangsar. They also have two other outlets in Sunway as well as in SACC Mall.
