I find it amazing that people are creating and selling batik-designed pieces in many different options. It’s so creative and simple that anyone can rock the pieces from the shops I’m about to list. These shops show how much effort they put into each piece and it’s beautiful to see these shops preserving batik culture in Malaysia. Before we get into the list, let me brief you on the origins of batik.

Batik And Its Origins

Batik, by definition as an Indonesian-Malay word, means “drops”. It actually originated in Indonesia and the batik used by Malaysians now is Javanese-influenced. There are a few ways of creating batik patterns. Originally, Malaysians used wooden blocks in order to create textures that are batik-like. However, in the late 1920s, the usage of wax was led by Javanese batik designers. Although batik designs in Malaysia are very different from Javanese batik, there are a few techniques and designs that were Javanese-influenced.

Batik has now become a general term to describe dyeing fabric while using wax to create patterns and sort of guide the colours. A pattern would be drawn on with wax and areas without the wax would absorb the colours beautifully. Now, there are a few ways to create batik designs. One could go with tradition and use written batik which is designs drawn by hand, or you could use stamp batik which involves using a design stamp, typically made with wood. There are a few other ways and each way results in a beautifully patterned and coloured design.

As mentioned before, a lot of people have found new ways to incorporate batik designs in what we use or wear and these are a few of the best online batik accessories shop that sell them:
