Having curly hair is extremely difficult. I remember going to saloons and every single hairdresser would try to make my hair straighter, I remember so many people calling my hair messy when in fact it wasn’t; it was just curly. Living with curly hair is a struggle especially when your hair type is usually considered difficult to handle. Even when we curly-haired people would go to the salon to get our hair cut, the hairdresser would usually tell us “Oh that would not look very nice as your hair would end up poofy.”
However, over the years I have come to learn that my hair type is beautiful no matter what anybody thinks. People tend to be ashamed of things they cannot understand. While I was growing up I noticed that the media has always shown before and after pictures of girls with curly hair who end up using a certain hair product and it instantly becomes straight and that has been perceived as beautiful. The media has always correlated straight hair as clean and tamed and curly hair as messy and untamed. Whenever we search for products to maintain or take care of our curls, the products we find are usually to get rid of them. Hence it has become almost impossible to find products that are curl friendly.
