Date Ideas In KL: 3 Places To Go On A Date In KL

Date Ideas in KL

Falling in love, we’ve all been there before. Every single moment is spent thinking about your new significant other and every other moment MUST be spent around them. God forbid the thought of going 5 minutes without them, are you insane??? They’re clearly the only source of life for you. And what??? You’re leaving to the bathroom, DON’T YOU understand??? We’re inseparable and it’s gonna be that way. Forever.

That is, until reality hits and you realize you haven’t left your partner’s side for half a year now, you’ve both gained 10kg since the beginning of the relationship and that first infatuated spark (obsession?) is gone. Now, date nights just consist of the same tapau-ing something from the mamak or Grabfood (if you guys feel like spicing things up) and Netflix & chilling (without the chilling because you can’t even bear to look at them or touch them anymore).

When a relationship hits a rut, most people would suggest couples counselling but pfft, you’re a millennial, you can’t even move out of your parents’ house (Unless of course a conducive accommodation for you is a tiny flat shared with three other strangers), much less pay hundreds of ringgit just to talk it out. Come on, it’s normal, the honeymoon period is over, we’re okay, WE’RE TOTALLY FINE, OKAY???

We at Teh Talk here have found alternatives in saving this relationship and have come up with a list of super fun date ideas in KL for you to do that won’t break the budget (unlike a couples counselling session).

1. Farm in the City

Date Ideas in KL

Something about the stench of animal manure and wet fur gets my hormones all riled up… Located in Seri Kembangan, Farm in the City is the largest petting zoo Malaysia and allow it to be the place to reinvigorate your love for each other again! Hosting a large variety of animals such as sheep, horses, tortoises and you wanna squeal for this – alpacas!

Date Ideas in KL

This will be the only time you’ll be able to see an alpaca face-to-face in Malaysia as they usually live in colder climates (you’ll notice the large airconds at full blast in their pens) so don’t miss your chance to catch these furry critters in all their fluffy glory and yes, you can touch them (it IS a petting zoo after all).

But if cute fluffy animals are not your thing (HOW???), Farm in the City also has a reptile cavern, consisting of Mangrove snakes, small crocodile species and even a python! So if halfway through the date you realize there’s truly no saving the relationship, there’s always a hungry python to solve that problem for you…

Date Ideas in KL

But back to something slightly more pleasant, the great thing about petting zoos is how freely the animals roam around the place. During my time there, everywhere I went, I stumbled upon random animals (chickens, tortoises) walking around in their non-designated sections which creates a different experience compared to major zoos where animals can only be observed through glass enclosures.

Date Ideas in KL

Farm in the City costs RM39 per person (with the possession of a MyKad) and the price is truly worth it as it guarantees a more up-close and personal encounter with their selection of animals and as for saving that dying relationship? Come on, who wouldn’t fall in love (again) amidst the bleating sheep, cawing birds and goofy grinned alpacas?

2. Rooftop Cinema (Stratosphere at The Roof)

Remember the simpler times of the 50s? Your girls and you gathered at the local diner to discuss over milkshakes about your crush on the school’s star athlete? At some point, a musical number is sure to happen and that will eventually lead to a date with the jock at a drive-in theatre where most probably (most definitely) some sort of sexual assault will occur (I’m looking at you, Grease) but hey it was the 50s! Rape (not forgetting racism) was downplayed then.

Date Ideas in KL

Disturbing moral values aside, there’s a certain romantic nostalgia about movie drive-ins: something about watching a film under the stars while snuggling with your significant other as mosquitoes feast on your legs. That’s true romance, right there! So if that’s your cup of tea, Stratosphere provides just that ideal date in KL!

Date Ideas in KL

Located at First Avenue, Bandar Utama (All you former PLAY goers will be familiar with this building), The Roof brands itself as a hub offering premium dining & entertainment experiences with the added incentive of being right under the stars. Offering five outlets in which each of them caters to a distinct crowd a sports bar to gastro lounge and finally, STRATOSPHERE, a helipad bar, THE place to get your outdoor film screening fix.

Date Ideas in KL

Hosted every Wednesday of every month, the screening starts at 7:30pm (perfect for you working couples) and a diverse selection of films are shown such as chick flicks, action movies and horror films (especially for the spooky month of October) so you and your significant other definitely won’t get bored.

Unlike a drive-in theater however, don’t bother driving your car right up to the roof, bean bags are provided. Also important to note, there’s a maximum number of 30 seats up for availability so book fast before they’re all sold out!

Address: Jalan Dataran Bandar Utama, Bandar Utama, 47400 Petaling Jaya, Selangor

3. Sepang Go-Kart Circuit

Date Ideas in KL

What better way to spice up that dead-end relationship than to squeeze oneself into a tiny four-wheeled vehicle and race around a track but not just any track, but one inspired by the Formula 1 race. The adrenaline will surely get your heart pumping for your significant other again.

Designed by renowned F1 track designer Hermann Tilke who also designed our now (sadly) defunct Sepang International Circuit Track, this mini replica pans almost 1.5km long and 10m wide. Now, it’s the perfect time to release all that pent-up anger you’ve accumulated for all the times your significant other forgot to do the dishes or when they forgot to buy toilet paper. But hey, we at Teh Talk aren’t liable for any crashes or “accidents” that occurred.

This circuit has three types of racing experiences on offer:

i. Quick Experience

Said as their “free & easy” choice, you’ll be allowed to drive around the circuit for 10 minutes. Choosing from three series of karts, the difference between each choice (aside from the price), being the horsepower so depending on your driving skills (and need for speed), it’s up to you on what you wanna choose. But for first-timers, Series 1 Kart is recommended as it doesn’t go up to high speeds and it also has a student discounted price!

ii. Race Adventure

10 minutes not enough? Then, go for the Race Adventure option where you’ll get the full Formula 1 experience. From having to practice then going for qualifying rounds and finally to the finals, this option will have you feeling like the next Lewis Hamilton, without the intense training or uncertainty of death. And just like the previous option, there are 3 different series of karts to choose from, each having a different price.

However, there is a minimum number of players so date night might just turn into a family outing but hey maybe then you two will grow closer amidst the parental & in-law hate. As the late Winston Churchill once said, “The enemy of my enemy is my friend”. (Yes, we’re using a quote from a famous war figure to describe salvaging a relationship)

If the relationship is truly on the rocks and even an hour on the circuit can’t save it, how about pulling out the big guns and renting the entire circuit for an hour? Yes, it’s possible! But at a cost, of course but isn’t love priceless after all? For that added pressure, invite all your friends and family along and do an impromptu marriage proposal because that’s what a dead relationship needs after all, right?

So, there you go, 3 dates ideas in KL to revive a dying relationship (or to be less cynical), to make date nights fun again! Netflix and chill sessions are well, pretty chill but it’s always good to spice it up by doing something completely out-of-ordinary (which will surprise your significant other. HAH! So much for being boring, SARAH. Think your side dude’s gonna rent out a go-kart circuit just for you? Nuh-uh. Go ahead, pet an alpaca, snuggle under the stars while watching a movie and strap on a helmet & race away!
