Here’s a fun fact, there are around 20 million Muslims living in China, and not just immigrants, but Muslims who have been there for centuries. From the Hui to the Uighur. So it is no surprise that there will be some halal food there. And no surprise that they have found their way to a Muslim majority country like Malaysia.
Being in a multicultural society, we Malaysians can enjoy food from all over, from East to West. But in today’s post, we head East!
You know, as a Malay Muslim, who is also a major foodie, it is rather difficult knowing that I am limited to the food I eat, as I can only eat halal certified food and anything that does not have pork in it. So I usually pass by the Chinese hawker stalls with a curiosity to try their food, but that curiosity cannot be fed as most of the Chinese hawkers in KL are not halal certified and use pork products.
So you can imagine my excitement and satisfaction when I saw a rise in halal Chinese restaurants KL and the Klang Valley. Below we go through some of the best ones we can find in the Klang Valley.
Although the country is under lock-down due to the Covid-19 situation, some of these restaurants still offer take-out and delivery if you are in their areas of operation. So perhaps try them out for you next take out night? Or once this lock-down is over, why not visit them?
1. Mohd Chan
This halal Chinese restaurant chain serves up delicious Cantonese-style dishes with a mix of Southeast Asian flair and tastes. Every dish they serve up is bursting with flavour and colour, leaving you satisfied as you munch away.
The chain was established in 2007 and has a total of 15 restaurant branches, 3 dim-sum branches and 3 express branches, which you can find them over here!
The restaurant chain is known for using their own fresh ingredients and for their delicious dumplings. They also have a selection of mouth-watering steamed fish dishes too.
I myself have frequented the Ara Damansara branch, and I can personally tell you that it is properly delicious, every time I ate there with my family or had a take out from there, it was always a satisfying meal. I personally like their 4-Season vegetables and Ginger Beef dishes, as well as their selection of dumplings. And for dessert, their Sea Coconut Longan is a satisfying end to an already rich meal (but make sure you have friends to enjoy this dessert!).

2. Amber Chinese Muslim Restaurant
This halal Chinese restaurant in KL serves original Chinese dishes, with the proper recipes from China. No American-style modifications here! Amber Chinese also serves up some Uighur food like Uighur kebab and Uighur-style pulled noodles.
The food you would find here will mostly consist of dishes from the northern parts of China or the “Silk Road” regions, so they would use different spices from the ones you would find in say Cantonese dishes and most of their food is fried.
Amber Chinese restaurant has a lot of lamb-based dishes, my personal favourite is the Lamb Ziran pulled-noodles. It is basically cumin lamb on top of some hand-pulled noodles, it does have a bit of heat in it, but it sure is tasty. If you grab a set, you will get a side of some kebabs and some pickled vegetables.

3. Haji Sharin Low
Haji Sharin Low restaurants are perfect for a dinner with family and friends. With signature dishes like butter prawns, salted egg squid, steamed sea bass, all given in generous proportions. They also have a lovely selection of dim-sums as well.
Overall the restaurant offers quite the variety, perfect for multicultural people like us here in Malaysia. An outing at one of their halal certified branches will surely leave your stomach satisfied.

4. Lamb Shepherd Restaurant
This is another halal Chinese restaurant in KL serving up lovely Uighur and Xinjiang cuisine. You’ll find lots of lamb dishes here as well and get ready to feel the heat of their spicy dishes which they also serve up.
Lots of people recommend the place due to their good portions, pricing and variety of dishes. The dumpling soup and braised eggplant are among the recommended items that we insist you try, and don’t forget the juicy lamb chops as well!
The price range for this restaurant is between RM10 to RM50.

5. Mee Tarik Warisan Asli
The specialty of this halal restaurant in KL is, you guessed it, mee tarik, or hand-pulled noodles. With a window that shows how the noodles are made, slurping down on some Lamb Ziran noodles has never been more delicious. It’s fun seeing how your food gets made through a window and then eating it afterwards.
The noodles are all made by hand, and skillfully pulled into noodles, they are then placed in a variety of sauces and soups and cook in different ways. All of which are delicious. That is just the beauty of noodles…
The chain is run and owned by Chinese Muslims and has around 20 outlets in Malaysia, they were even featured on TV!. I have personally been to their Kota Damansara outlet, and I can personally say that their noodles are just *mwah*.
My favourite dishes have to be the Chicken Lamen Soup, the Mee Tarik in Special Sauce, the Mee Tarik Lamb Ziran and the Fried Mee Tarik.
They also have a good selection of healthy teas, their specialty is their Ba Bao Tea.

6. Mohammad Chow
This is another halal Chinese restaurant which offers traditional original Chinese dishes with a modern twist. Founded in 2013, this restaurant keeps their dishes simple, but that simplicity is what sells!
According to their website, they were nominated for the Top 5 Best Chinese Restaurant for TimeOut KL Food Awards 2015 and were featured in TV programs such as Jalan-Jalan Cari Makan on TV3.
I ordered their Kung Pao Chicken, Ginger Beef and Char Kuey Teow for take out and everyone in my family enjoyed it! A Lot of people recommend Butter Prawns, Sweet and Sour Chicken. I’m getting hungry just thinking about it!
The food you can get at Mohammad Chow is the same that you can find in any Chinese eatery and hawker stalls in KL, only this time there is no pork or lard used in their ingredients.
So, great food, simple food and economic food? It’s perfect really!

7. Muhibbah Seafood Restaurant
Fresh seafood is always a delight and this halal restaurant in KL serves up that delight!
Muhibbah Seafood Restaurant has been serving up delicious meals and dishes since 1986, and has come a long way from their push-cart origins. Today the restaurant has a fully established place with lots of space where you can enjoy dinner with friends and family.
From Nasi Goreng Cina to Deep Fried squid, the meals here will also do more than satisfy.

8. Mee Tarik Kungfu Ramen
This lovely little restaurant sits tucked away in the Giant Mall in Kelana Jaya. Located quite close to where I work too, so I’d frequent the place for my lunch break.
A full house in the restaurant is a common site during lunch hours, you have Malays, Chinese and Indians all in one place slurping down on some good hand-pulled noodles.
As you may have known by now, I am a huge, HUGE, fan of hand-pulled fresh noodles, and this halal Chinese restaurant being close to my workplace is truly a BLESSING.
My personal favourites are the Uyghur-styled pulled noodles and the flat-noodle stir fry.
This place is truly a hidden treasure and the next time you are in Kelana Jaya, and you are looking for a satisfying meal to eat, I cannot recommend Mee Tarik Kungfu Ramen enough.

Those were some of the best halal Chinese restaurants in KL and the Klang Valley which I and many others can recommend, so be sure to call them up and book a reservation if you can, as their delicious dishes get people flocking!
But, again, do try to avoid going out at this time as the Covid-19 lock-down is still in place, so go for takeout or delivery instead, perhaps when this lock-down is over, you can head over to these lovely restaurants for your fist outing post lock-down!
