3. Malaysia’s Badminton Mixed Team Beats India and Wins Gold in Commonwealth Games 2022
3 August 2022 should be a date to be remembered by our local badminton fans. It was a date when Malaysia’s mixed team managed to win against India in Commonwealth Games 2022. Fans said that this is they avenged their loss 4 years ago in Gold Coast against the same opponent.
Our national Olympic heroes, Aaron Chia and Soh Wooi Yik, contributed to our first win against Satwiksairaj Rankireddy and Chirag Shett. Malaysia won the first set by 21-18 and the second set by 21-15. In the second game, Goh Jin Wei gave her best performance in this edition before being defeated by Pusarla V. Sidhu.
Our second win was contributed by men’s single player, Ng Tze Yong. His all-out performance against the world’s former number 1 player, Kidambi Srikanth, provided Malaysia with our second win. Lastly, the most exciting game was played by our women’s double players, Pearly Tan and M.Thinaah. After such competitive and thrilling sets against Treesa Jolly and Gayatri Gopichand Pullela, they ended this series with 21-18, 21-17, indicating the third win for Malaysia and the overall winner of the mixed competition.
These national heroes should be appreciated even more, and we are glad to see unstoppable love and support from the fans. Not all heroes wear capes, and sometimes they hold a badminton racket in their hands.
