Private School in Malaysia: 5 Best Private Schools in Malaysia

Private school in Malaysia can be difficult to decide. Although public schools offer free admissions, parents can’t be assured that they provide the best education for their children. Private schools help to get rid of that worry as they can provide some of the best educational materials. Here are 5 best private schools in Malaysia.

1. Alice International School

Alice Farfield-Smith established Alice International School in 1946 when she could not find a suitable school for her daughter. As a mother and a biology graduate from Harvard University, she established her own school on her own which led to the establishment of the very first international British school in Malaysia. Currently, the school has built two campuses in two separate locations, one in Kuala Lumpur and the other in Seri Kembangan which focuses on primary and secondary education respectively.

Despite being built far apart, students are able to travel between both campuses by taking a 20 minute walk. Having a long history, the Alice International School has seen many improvements and has expanded its facilities to ensure that their students will receive the best experience throughout their time as a student in this school. When Alice and her family back return to America, the Alice Smith Schools Association (ASSA) was created as a not-for-profit organization to continue her ambition, missions and goals. Until today, ASSA continues to fulfil her wish and is now one of the most prominent associations in the world.

As the first British private school in Malaysia, Alice International School is now one of the most prominent associations in Malaysia. As a result, its position in multiple educational councils such as Council of International Schools (CIS), East Asia Regional Council of Schools (EARCOS) and Independent Schools Council (ISC) are important for private schools in Malaysia. They are also one of the few founding members of the Federation of British International Schools in Asia (FOBISIA), therefore making it one of the most prominent members in the world.

2. Garden International School

Garden International School (GIS) was established at Lake Gardens in Kuala Lumpur in the year of 1951 and was among one of the earliest British international schools established after Alice International School. They were initially a school for kindergarten and primary education, but quickly became popular. After they transferred to Bukit Bintang, they opened their doors to students who wished to continue studying in secondary education. The University of London General Certificate of Education has chosen Garden International School as their first center to hold ‘O’ levels examination in 1966 with only 11 students as their first batch for the exam.

Today, Garden International School is one of the most prestigious private schools in Malaysia. With the recognition of Council of International Schools and Western Association of Schools and Colleges (WASC), its popularity has gotten a significant boost. Recently, they won multiple awards with British International School Initiative of the Year being their biggest achievement in their career albeit only as shortlisted. This makes them the only school in to become nominated for the award in Southeast Asia.

GIS introduces a Parent, Teacher and Friends (PTF) committee to strengthen the bonds between parents and staff members. Additionally, PTF provides a workshop that educates parents of their facilities and services.

As the coronavirus continues to spread across the world, all schools are closed to prevent the virus spreading any further. This leaves parents in a constant state of worry as they feel anxious about their children’s progress in education. The Ministry of Education is encouraging schools to use online platforms to continue educating through various apps without losing any progress. With most exams except major exams being cancelled, most students are more carefree and less worried about the upcoming exams. Lessons are now conducted online and students are more likely to stray away from their classes. Parents can use this as an opportunity to enhance their children’s learning experience.

With the internet becoming more important, parents can find every information online. They can find the details of enrolling and subjects offered by private schools. And most importantly, students can attend class at the comfort of their homes without their education being hindered. Although it is hard to pick the perfect private school in Malaysia for your children, it should at least provide enough educational materials for your children to survive when they grow up.
