OK, so maybe the title has made you confused, so let me just tell it to you straight. In this article which you are about to read, I’ll be explaining the advantages and disadvantages for men to shave their pubes, and by pubes I mean pubic hair. And it is not just the pubes, oh no, but the rest of the jungle you got down there in the pubic area too.

Here is a little fun fact about our species. Humans are the only species within our class (Mammals) that has pubic hair. Do canines have them? Nope. What about our closest counterparts, the monkeys, surely they have them, right? No sir! You would think that our hair covered primates would have a bush, but it does start to thin out down there. So yes, it is just us humans who can have a large bush. So why do we stand out? We go into detail in the section below!

What’s Up With This Bush?

Like most of our body features and parts, having pubic hair has a function.

For instance, the skin in the areas down there are rather sensitive, so pubic hair can help reduce the friction when we are out doing all sorts of activities. And like the rest of the hair on your body, it is also used to keep yourself warm.

Pubic hair also shares the same functions as your eyelashes and nose hair, and that is to trap debris and dirt that could contain harmful microorganisms. Hair follicles are producers of sebum, which is an oil that can help prevent bacteria from spreading as well. Pubic hair can assist in the protection against STIs, UTIs, yeast infections and so on.

The appearance of pubic hair when we reach puberty is a good sign that your body has become sexually mature and can signal your ability to reproduce. Perhaps long time ancestors who lived in caves used the appearance of pubic hair to seek out potential mates.

There are some theories that suggest that pubic hair is linked to our transmission of pheromones. Which are chemical scents that affect mood and behavior.

The Advantages of Trimming Down

#1: Keeps You Cool

We know that the hair is there to keep you warm, but about in those hot summer months and days, it seems like having too much hair down there while it is scorching out may be uncomfortable and can potentially be bad for your personal hygiene. So yes, trimming down the bush can relieve that discomfort on hot days. I mean think about it this way, if you wouldn’t wear a sweater in summer, why should your pubic area have to?

Although it will always be warm down there no matter the season, shaving off some hair can ease the heat.

#2: Keeps You Clean

Now hair usually isn’t an issue when it comes to your personal hygiene, we shampoo and condition and so on. But when it comes to pubic hair, an excessive amount can spell problems for your personal hygiene. For instance, when not washed properly, there can be an unpleasant stench. People usually think that sweat is the cause, but no, it is actually the bacteria on your body using sweat to get about. The hair is also a contributing factor to this as it can trap that bacteria for longer.

This can lead to bacterial colonies which can cause irritations and itches if not washed thoroughly, so usually, when it comes to cleaning that area, we would and should spend more time scrubbing it down because of this.

But if you were to trim it a bit, you can ease off the scrubbing as there will be less hair to hold back that bacteria.

#3: Quicker Showers

In relation to the point above, we will spend less time in the showers if we had a trimmed down bush because we would not spend time scrubbing and cleaning that area thoroughly. You may think that “Oh, I don’t waste too much time cleaning the undercarriage.” Well, if you were to add all that time up, you will see how much time is spent.

And it is not just in the shower either. If you have a thick bush, a good practice is to let it dry off the pubic area before putting your boxers or whatever on. But this can take time if you have a large amount of hair.

So shaving your pubes can shave off time in your schedule too!

#4: See Any Issues

Sometimes ulcers, lumps and all sorts of growths can appear in that region. This can be due to the bacteria or any ingrown hairs. Having a thick bush can make it hard to really see the severity of the issue. Serious issues like STDs, large lumps, tumors and so on can be easily missed if you have a lot of hair covering it.

So, by shaving or at least trimming your pubic hair, you will be able to spot these issues with ease and act early.

#5: No More Embarrassing Slips!

Say you’re at a pool party, or just in a public pool, you have your shirt off and you’re going to enjoy a day in the cool waters with your friends. But what’s this? There is hair coming out from the top of your swimming shorts! How embarrassing!

You know, you could avoid this dilemma if you trimmed your pubic hair!

#6: Can Make Things Look Bigger…

A large mound of hair can make your device…. Ah screw it.

Having lots of hair on your crotch can make your penis seem small.

I mean it is pretty obvious why. It’s being hidden underneath all that hair. If you are a dude that is very self-conscious about your size, you will be glad to know that a quick trim in your pubic area can make your penis look larger, even if it is not that considerably large.

Ah the beauty of illusion…

#7: More Pleasure!

When you shave your pubic hair, the time you spend with your partner in bed can be more intimate. After all, sex is all about skin-to-skin contact, rough or gentle. But we won’t have to go into all that.

A well-trimmed bush could make you and your partner’s experience even better, sometimes it is the hair that may form a barrier between you two, so to trim the hair is to remove that barrier. The skin down there is sensitive, so when there is hair in the way of pleasure.

Whatever form of fun you and your partner may have, having a well trimmed pubic region will surely be met with glee from your partner. They may like to get down and dirty, but not that dirty…

The Disadvantages Of Trimming Down

#1: Oh God, the itching…

Once the hair has been cut, it will immediately begin its’ process of growing back. And so enters the cursed sensation of itching. This happens when your hair is at a stubble, it is rigid and can be a bit pokey. This is what causes the itching sensation.

#2: Ingrown Hair Ahoy

Shaving, in general, can increase the chances of forming in grown hairs. This is when the hair grows back into itself and underneath the skin which may cause lumps and pimples. It can happen on your beard and it can happen in your pubic area, an uncomfortable experience all around.

#3: Cuts and Burns

The issues of shaving your face can also appear in your pubic area. Men who shave are well aware of the dreaded razor burn that we get post-shave, especially on sensitive parts of the skin like are face and areas around the pubic region.

Cuts are also an issue too if you are going for a full clean shave down there, it might be difficult with the loose skin. The best way to avoid this is to stretch the skin and apply more shaving cream or gel and letting the blade guide lightly. You surely want to avoid irritating cuts, ESPECIALLY down there.

#4: Less Protection

As said before, pubic hair acts have a form of protection against bacteria and STIs. By constantly shaving off your pubic hair, you are in more danger to these conditions.

How To Get A Comfortable And Safe Shave

Many issues arise out of people not being careful when they are trimming the bush or not preparing properly. Here are some health tip when it comes to shaving your pubes:

#1: Wash Yourself

Washing your body properly with soap before getting into the shaving part can greatly reduce the spread of bacteria.

#2: Keep the Skin Lubed

Do not dry shave your pubes, just don’t. Otherwise you are in for a world of irritations.

#3: Clean Razors

When shaving ANY part of your body, it is important to use a clean razor, so be sure to disinfect it and change the blades regularly.

#4: Avoid Tight Clothes

After your shaving routine, it is best to avoid tight pants or underwear that can worsen the irritation. But only for a few days.

#5: Moisturize

Moisturizing your skin after a shave can help soothe irritations. Natural oils and lotions are preferable.

#6: Remove Dead Skin

Exfoliate yourself with a loofah and gently scrub off the dead skin cells.

#7: Shave with the grain

Shaving in the direction your hair grows in also contributes to less irritation after.

But I Don’t Want To Shave! What Do I Do?

Hey, we are not here to control your life, you do you, dude. But if it were up to me, it is preferable that you at least trim the bush, a full clean shave doesn’t have to be done all the time. But if you still think that you should keep your bush, you should at least take better care of yourself. This can be done by:

  • Warm water in the showers with soap.
  • Using soaps which are not heavily chemical base.
  • Wash the hairs of your pubes thoroughly.
  • Patting your pubes dry before putting on pants.

Conclusion

Hopefully this article can give you a little insight into the wonders of shaving your pubic region! Along with it’s dilemmas too!

In the end, it is up to you whether you want to trim the ol’ bush! But it should always be common practice to keep your hygiene to a good standard. Whether your pubes are shaved or not, good hygiene is always key to all!
